Our Mission

The Foundation exists to honor the legacy of Ann Hunt Jones Smith by awarding scholarships and grants to students and institutions in the performing arts and to foster the creative and academic development of students to enrich our world.

The Ann Hunt Jones Smith Foundation (AHJS) was created to honor a woman whose life inspired generations. Ann Hunt Jones Smith was more than a teacher – she was a force of faith, resilience, and love, utilizing scriptural principles alongside music and education to uplift others and create lasting change.

The Foundation was established in 2023 as a 501(c)(3) public charitable organization by a devoted circle of friends, family members, and former students.

In Her Own Words

I firmly believe that children can learn by themselves and

from each other. The teacher, however, is the key to the quality of

the education of children. In fact, two of the primary roles of

teaching, I believe, are to challenge children to always

learn something while in the classroom;

to stir their curiosity to want to explore and

learn many things beyond the

classroom.

Why Your Support Matters

Students in the performing arts harness their creativity to inspire, communicate, and connect through music, dance, drama, and theater. Yet despite their unique talents, scholarships for these disciplines remain scarce and highly competitive. Access to funding can be a major barrier for many deserving students with the potential to shape the future of the arts.

The Ann Hunt Jones Smith Legacy Scholarship exists to change that.

Your contributions help open doors for emerging artists—students who will influence the evolution of music, movement, and stage performance for generations to come. By supporting the AHJS Foundation, you’re investing in the creative and academic development of talented individuals pursuing degrees in the performing arts.

Together, we can empower the next generation of artists.

From Our Founders

“As I attended Ann’s Celebration of Life and listened to all the ways she had impacted the lives of others, I was in awe at how much she had done that I did not know, although we had a long and close friendship. When I was asked to join the AHJS Foundation, I was honored to do so. I am committed to ensuring the growth of our organization and fully support its mission.”

- S. Sents

“I chose to honor Ann because she chose to honor me first with her friendship, kindness, love and respect. I met her at Brooks Avenue Church of Christ when I moved to Raleigh in 2000. She immediately treated me like family, inviting me into her home and to many gatherings and events. She was there for me when I needed advice, spiritual guidance and direction. For these reasons and many many more I chose to honor her and to become a founding and active member of the AHJS Foundation”.

- E. Hawkins

Ann’s life has touched, changed and encouraged so many sisters and brothers to pursue their talents and dreams. It was her spiritual guidance that led me and so many others to Christ. I joined the AHJS Foundation to help get it started and move forward. I wanted to give back what my beloved Sister In Christ gave to me; her time, patience, knowledge, wisdom and love”.
